gone astray

what does is mean to be a christian?
i think i'm just going to ask some questions here - if you want, you can answer in a comment.

is it that you go to church each week of your life? that you go to church only on major holidays? or even go to church two or three times a week?
is it that you just call yourself a christian because you lived with it - and some how you had the mental capacity and unerstanding to "accept Christ" when you were three years old? or even since birth?
is it because you said the "sinner's prayer"?
how 'bout because you went to bible school - i bet that makes you a christian..
do you just call yourself a christian for the heck of it? for the fun of it?
do you call yourself a christian - and that same day go out and sin all day?

(now let me clarify what sin is --> transgression of the law - God's moral law - based on the Ten Commandments) - have you lied? stolen? hated? coveted? put anything before God? disobeyed your folks? (that's the stuff i'm talkin about)

do ya do all the christian stuff - and not really care about it?

saying a sinner's prayer - and believing? <--- that's about the biggest joke in christian history.

sinner's prayer = saying your sorry -- heck yes we should be sorry for our sins - but sayin sorry ain't gonna save us.
and believing? believing what? what do you believe? why do you believe it? how did you come to believe it?

ever heard of repentance? yeah - it's not a very used word in churches these days.
and if it is - i hear it used wrongly most of the time.

repentance = turning away from sin and walking the other way... what? no. that is wrong. half of that statement is right. half is wrong. can you guess which half is wrong?
yeah you guessed right - the walking. "but we're supposed to walk away from sin aren't we?" - mmm. scripture points it out a little better.

"flee from youthful lusts" -- which essentially means "RUN!"
joseph when tempted by potiphar's wife - he didn't get up and walk away from it - he got up and... "RAN!"

joseph didn't even run away from sin - he ran away from temptation... so a simple walking away from sin - is near impossible. we must start running from temptation.

anways - what DOES it mean to be a christian?
